Documentation and Billing Practices to Maximize Reimbursement for IM and IM Home OnDemand

Course Description:

You are providing a valuable service to your clients and the communities you serve, and they are improving by leaps and bounds with Interactive Metronome (IM) and IM Home. Successful reimbursement for these services contributes to the overall success of your practice. Dillen Hartley, OTR/L will draw upon 19 years of experience with the use of IM and IM Home with children and adults in outpatient private practice to guide you through the complex and, at times, frustrating world of billing and insurance reimbursement. This comprehensive course will cover all of the fundamentals specific to billing for IM and IM Home services including documentation, coding, claim submission, private invoicing, telehealth, and managing denials. Dillen will answer your specific questions in the last 30 minutes of the course, so come prepared to pick his brain!

Contact Hours/ASHA CEUs are offered pending successful completion of a written exam at the end of the course. This course is NOT offered for AOTA or PT CEUs.

Course Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Provide an overview of the process for billing insurance and private pay clients for in-person Interactive Metronome (IM) services and virtual telehealth services with IM Home;
  • Identify the correct diagnosis and treatment billing codes for in-person IM and virtual telehealth IM Home services;
  • Select the correct modifiers when billing for in-person IM and virtual telehealth IM Home services;
  • Describe discipline-specific documentation requirements for successful reimbursement;
  • List several tools and techniques available for submitting claims;
  • Explain the process for appealing a denial and writing a letter of medical necessity;
  • Describe what a billing report is and explain how to create one.
    *Note: This course covers information that pertains to licensed therapists and therapy assistants. OTA and PTA professionals must practice IM under the supervision of a licensed OT or PT.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
